How to Burn Fat without Burning Muscle

One of the goals of working out is to lose weight quickly and effectively. What many exercisers do not realize is that when they burn fat, they can also burn muscle mass as well.

It is important to realize that it is really hard to burn fat without burning muscle mass in the process. Losing weight while losing muscle mass will just leave a person looking weak and soft, more like a cave-in than a caveman.

Here are three things that you should keep in mind in order to ensure that you don’t end up losing muscle mass while burning fat.

Eat Small, Frequent Meals

It’s essential to have regular and frequent meals in order to lose weight without losing muscle. This may sound strange, but it couldn’t be more true.

Muscles need a lot of energy to grow and maintain their strength. This often isn’t possible when dieting and exercising to burn fat at the same time.

Having several small meals throughout the day will increase the body’s metabolic rate. That means more energy is used to compensate for the lack of large meals we typically eat three times a day.

As a result, you can lose fat faster while allowing your muscles to get the energy they require for maintaining mass.

Perform Strength Training

Strength training is crucial if one wants to lose weight without losing any muscle mass. Doing exercises that require a lot of strength, such as dead weight lifts and barbell presses, increases the body’s energy requirements.

Since the objective is to lose fat without burning muscle, your body will end up increasing its metabolic rate to compensate for the energy demanded by the muscles.

An increased metabolic rate means that the body will burn its stored fat faster than it would normally.

Do Short, Intense Workouts

Short and intense workouts are the way to go whenever a person wants to lose weight without burning muscle mass. Instead of performing long and monotonous exercises, perform short, high intensity exercises instead.

High intensity training sessions allow the human body to increase its resting metabolic rate for up to three days. This means that your body will end up burning large amounts of stored fat, even if you are not working out.
