Although getting rid of excess fat is no easy task, the golden rule of weight loss is the harder you work out, the more calories you will end up burning.

One great way to burn calories really fast and effectively is to implement High-Intensity Interval Training or HIIT, as it is more commonly known.

HIIT requires an individual to train in a series of sets of quick bursts, using full effort and without having a long cool down period between sets.

Essentially, it puts your system into overdrive. By doing so, calorie consumption increases during the workout and even for some time after the workout (in the resting period).

The idea behind HIIT is that your body will be under a large amount of stress from the intense exercise you will be doing. In order to recover after the workout, your body will need to burn calories along with oxygen for a couple of hours.

This does not mean that a normal workout is ineffective. In fact, a normal workout can produce this same effect, but with much less intensity.

It is important to realize that HIIT does not only help lose weight. It also helps you get an amazingly ripped body that will be chiseled to perfection.

HIIT is something that athletes do all the time to build up muscle, and it’s probably what our ancestors did back in the Stone Age to become so big and strong.

For those just getting started, HIIT is best undertaken when you are doing weight training at the gym. Do all of your exercises just as hard as you can for as long as possible. Don’t bother to count the number of reps you do in a set; just keep pushing yourself until you can’t bear to do anymore.

Once you are completely burnt out, take a two-minute breather and then start the process again. Really push it. Keep doing a single exercise for at least three sets, and continue in this way for the rest of your exercises.

One caution: it is absolutely necessary to warm up first. You need to prepare your body for the high amount of strain that is about to be put on it.

Additionally, do not do HIIT more than twice a week, otherwise you may end up overdoing it.

In short, High-Intensity Interval Training is a great way to lose weight fast and put on muscles. It is quite likely to leave others puzzled over how you managed to get so fit and muscular in so little time.
