Although getting in shape involves a physical change, it starts with a mental adjustment first. Get your life in order and then your body.
We have all been there. Our diet is crap, we have no motivation to exercise and it seems like there are so many more important things to focus on then our health. Here are some simple steps we can take to change that.
Focus on the Now
Too many of us dwell on the past and are not focused on the present. If you are not happy with how things were before, make a commitment to change now.
So what if you were unable to lose weight before or could not stick to an exercise routine? All that matters is that you want to make things better in your life and are ready to make changes to do so.
Steer Clear of Toxic People
Most of us have at least one or two toxic friends or family members in our lives. It is someone who is always negative and constantly brings everyone else down.
Keeping negative influences around will thwart your goals of improving your mental and physical health. Cut out anyone who forces you to stay in your rut and criticizes your new outlook.
Whether we are trying to change our body or our minds, we need support. Surround yourself with people who are encouraging and will cheer you on as you make a commitment to change.
If you are having a rough day, it’s great to have someone who can listen and help you through any hurdles. A diet and exercise buddy is ideal to work out with and exchange advice on diet and motivation.
Before you focus on your body, get rid of any distractions undermining your weight loss efforts. Get any work stress or family problems under control before you concentrate on getting a new and improved body.
Medical problems should also be addressed, since you should have clearance from a doctor before overhauling your diet and fitness routine.
Stress and anxiety get in the way of a healthier lifestyle. Address the stressors in your life and then focus on a plan for a better body. When your mind is calm, getting the body in shape will not pose a problem.
Since you’re here …
… we’ve got a small favour to ask. More people are reading CAVEMENWORLD than ever, but few are paying for it. Advertising revenues across the media are falling fast. And unlike some othe organisations, we haven’t put up a paywall – we want to keep our articles open to all. So you can see why we need to ask for your help. CAVEMENWORLD’s independent, investigative journalism and graphics take a lot of time, money and hard work to produce. But we do it because we believe our perspective matters – because it might well be your perspective, too.
If everyone who reads our reporting, who likes it, helps to support it, our future would be much more secure.
